Light board bows may be made from hardwood boards like red oak and hickory, for example. I usually make them as tall as the archer and about 1 inch wide.
Always choose straight grained stock as per these instructions.

If the bowyer is inexperienced please consider backing the bow. Silk, burlap and linen are good choices.

Linen is also a very good backing and is applied the same way burlap and silk are installed.
